The Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (TACC) has made a submission on the draft Terms of Reference for the review of the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme. As Tasmania’s peak automotive industry association, we represent more than 400 member sites across over twenty retail automotive sectors. Our members employ more than 7,500 Tasmanians, and we employ around 80 automotive apprentices through our group training organisation.
We support the Review and broadly support the draft Terms of Reference. Our concern is what the draft doesn’t yet require the Review to do. We also want a small number of objectives tightened so the findings are useful to the employers who fund the scheme.
Our submission complements the one from the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI). We back TCCI’s positions on review independence, employer affordability, the drivers of rising scheme costs and premiums, national benchmarking, governance, and transparent assessment of scheme performance and sustainability.
Where TACC adds its voice is on issues that matter most to automotive businesses and small employers:
- Apprenticeships and group training
- Industry-level affordability
- Premium transparency
- Return-to-work outcomes
- Medical certification
- Incentives for injury prevention
