TACC has released our comprehensive pre-election submission to all political parties today ahead of the 2025 Tasmanian State Election. This submission represents the collective voice of our 400+ member sites and the 7,500 Tasmanians employed across our industry.
Our Industry Priorities Presented
Our submission presents 18 detailed recommendations across five critical areas that directly impact your businesses:
- Skills and Training – Addressing the training crisis following the TasTAFE Campbell Street closure and securing funding for new facilities
- Vehicle Safety Inspections – Advocating for mandatory roadworthy inspections to protect consumers and support our inspection businesses
- Insurance Industry Reform – Continuing the mandatory MVIRI Code of Practice to improve industry-insurer relationships
- Energy Transition Support – Securing government assistance for the transition to zero and low-emission vehicles
- Waste Tyre Management – Addressing the escalating costs and environmental concerns of end-of-life tyre disposal
Key Funding Requests
We have specifically called for:
- $450,000 continuation of funding for the new Cambridge training facility
- $15 million infrastructure modernisation fund for TasTAFE facilities in Devonport, Burnie, and Alanvale
- $30 million continuation of automotive teacher training programmes
- Transitional relief funding for ZLEV infrastructure
- Consumer incentive packages for electric vehicle purchases
- Government support for waste tyre collection and recycling capacity
