We’re pleased to report on a series of productive meetings held this week across Launceston and Hobart. TACC State Manager Bruce McIntosh and MTAA CEO Matt Hobbs led these engagements with federal and state politicians to advocate for key reforms in our industry.
Given the potential for a minority federal government supported by independents and greens, these discussions were particularly timely and crucial. We focused on several key areas that directly impact your businesses:
Our discussions centred on crucial industry issues including a federal mandate for the MVIRI Code of Conduct, initiatives for skills development and migration, the impact of EV transition on Tasmanian businesses, end-of-life vehicle and tyre stewardship programs, and the extension of FBT for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
We had the opportunity to meet with several influential figures, including:
- Senator Tammy Tyrrell (Independent)
- Senator Helen Polley (Labor)
- Senator Wendy Askew (Liberal)
- Representatives from Senator Peter Whish-Wilson’s office (Greens)
- Senator Claire Chandler (Liberal)
- Minister Eric Abetz, Tasmanian Minister for Transport
Additionally, we held a productive meeting with TCCI CEO Michael Bailey, discussing our industry’s transition to a low-emissions future.
We extend our sincere thanks to the TACC members who participated in these meetings:
- Mark Cooper (Cooper Automotive)
- Kate Presnell (Kate Presnell Bodyworks)
- Erroll Stewart (Jackson Motor Company)
- Chris Cordiner (Tas Auto Recyclers)
- Joe Casboult (Micra Breadalbane)
- Paul Gill (Goldstar Automotive)
Your attendance and valuable input were instrumental in effectively communicating our industry’s needs and concerns directly to your representatives.
We’re committed to continuing these important advocacy efforts on your behalf. Our next crossbench engagement day is scheduled for September, and we’ll keep you informed of any developments arising from these meetings.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in shaping the future of our industry.
